What is the best Chemical Brothers Mix?

Well, this could be a contender, even though the brothers were the inspiration rather than on the wheels of steel for this one. Thirty years ago, in 1994 while still under the moniker The Dust Brothers, they did a mix for NME called the Xmas Dust-Up. It is still one of my favourite mixes, and introduced me to Depth Charge who I love to this day (and who were arguably the inspiration for the whole NInja Tune / Mo Wax wave. But also to the Brothers’ banging remix of The Prodigy’s Voodoo People which was a firm favourite at the time.

They mixed Leave Home >> Voodoo People >> Shaolin Buddha Finger.

For copyright reasons, please do note this is not said 1994 NME Xmas Dust-Up. Nor is it 1996’s Brit Hop & Amyl House mix where Vanessa Rand (Tom Rowlands’ girlfriend at the time) reversed the order of the Chemical Brothers’ mix having Shaolin Buddha Finger >> Voodoo People >> Leave Home.

This is my throwback mix, made in 2024, trying to capture some of the energy and fun of these tracks when they’re slung together. This might be my favourite party mix thinking about it…

I added the Chemical Brothers’ remix of Jailbird by Primal Scream just because it was always on compilations at the time with the other tracks here, and it fits so perfectly, I thought why not? I’m already standing on the decks of giants.

I opted for this order:

  1. Chemical Brothers – Leave Home (album version)
  2. Depth Charge – Shaolin Buddha Finger
  3. The Prodigy – Voodoo People (Dust Brothers mix)
  4. Primal Scream – Jailbird (Chemical Brothers mix)
