This best of Aphex Twin mix answers the question – ‘how can you mix computer controlled piano playing with raging techno and outlandish screaming IDM?’ While this is Aphex Twin’s best tracks in one mix, it may not be possible to put the said answer into language!
The first track will make you check how loud your volume’s set to as it smashes down the door on its way past you to the DF. I’ll accept allegations of sacrilege for that one, but it’s totally worth in my opinion. I was so surprised with how the outrageous Come To Daddy actually complements Avril 14th pretty well!
Also, have you ever noticed how the melody for Avril 14th is the same as The Cure’s Why Can’t I Be You? (the one with the music vid where they quite embarrassingly have a blackface moment in the 1980s). Thought I’d check the theory by adding the missing vocal to Avril 14th anyway…
Albums and EPs this draws from include Drukqs, Windowlicker, Syro, Selected Ambient Works, Richard D James, I Care Because You Do…, Classics, 26 Mixes For Cash, Girl/Boy EP, and probably a couple of others.
Anyhoo, this is about a mix, so stop reading this drivel and have a listen to Cornwall’s finest 🙂
