I realised that while I loved this playlist, it wasn’t catching my attention often enough. Nor really surprising me.
So I’m happy to report, I’ve given it a complete overhaul and refresh. It used to be called Got Beat Up, but now has a far clearer name: Alternative Hip Hop, Headz & Heretics.
If you’re into modern progressive / alternative / abstract / conscious hip hop, then this is the playlist for you.
And the good news is, I’ve managed to automate it using the brilliant Smarter Playlists. So everyday the old playlist is wiped away, and a new one with entirely new tracks is put in its place.
Sooo, if you like any of Anticon, Black Star, billy woods, Moor Mother, Athletic Progression, Death Grips, Clouddead, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, Black Acre records, Rhymesayers mag, then you’re in the right place.
If you’ve got a brain that can handle those vibes, then you’ll probably be happy to find out the list also includes French, Japanese and Italian language rappers – and will probably continue to expand.
So if you want to listen to your old Diddy or Cypress Hill albums, then this probably ain’t for you…
