Elephant 6 began in Louisiana in the late 1980s, with 4 kids filling up tape cassettes with of them bashing their instruments and screaming, "Fuck your mama".

It did evolve!

Those four kids were Jeff Mangum (most famous for Neutral Milk Hotel), Bill Doss (The Olivia Tremor Control, The Apples In Stereo), Will Cullen Hart (The Olivia Tremor Control, Circulatory System) and Robert Schneider (The Apples In Stereo). The bands they went on to form in the 1990s significantly shaped most subsequent neo-psychedelic indie.
